Whole Foods Is Bananas

Whole Foods Is Bananas

So here’s what I wanna talk about today. There is a big controversy at
Whole Foods because they started doing something crazy. They started selling pre-peeled oranges.>>No.>>Did you know about this? Someone’s shaking their head,
you’ve known. Okay, that’s bananas.>>[LAUGH]
>>Okay let me break this down for you. Someone decided it was too much work for
people to peel their own oranges. Boy, people are lazy.>>[LAUGH]
>>I mean we buy shelled peanuts, we’ve all try to pick up the remote with
our foot instead of reaching over to grab it when it’s someplace. I mean how lazy are we that Whole Foods
had to hire someone to peel oranges? Are they wearing gloves? I don’t know, I don’t know.>>[LAUGH]
>>Then they had to buy little plastic containers to put the oranges in to
protect them and keep them fresh. You know what else does that? A peel, an actual-
>>[LAUGH]>>The way that nature made it, it’s already protected. This is crazy to me. The name of the store is Whole Foods and
yet they don’t sell you the whole food.>>[LAUGH]
>>Not only that, an unpeeled orange is $0.70, the peeled
orange $29, that’s not right, that’s->>[LAUGH]>>This isn’t the first time they’ve been in trouble about what they sell. They also used to sell asparagus water,
meaning asparagus that was in water. Did you see this?>>[LAUGH]
>>I would buy that maybe, I don’t know.>>[LAUGH]
>>But now to be fair they’ve stopped selling
these items because what’s the word? They got caught.>>[LAUGH]
>>But I can’t believe they sold these in
the first place thinking people are too lazy to peel their own oranges or
put their asparagus in water. I mean, I haven’t peeled
an orange since the late 80’s, but from what I remember,
it’s very easy to do. I don’t think people need pre-peeled
oranges, but I’ll tell you what they do need to do, and what I’ll be selling
in the Ellen Shop, pre-peeled bananas.>>[LAUGH]
>>Cuz unless you have a monkey, those are impossible to get open. You try to, you know. Of course, there’s only one thing
that you have to do all by yourself, no one’s gonna do it for
you and that is dance.

  1. It can be actually benefit if your driving or say your in hurry to make a fruit Salad all you have to do is take the top plastic part off and start eating it or putting in the the salad with out the fuss of peeling it first.

  2. This is so dumb that they put it in plastic instead. So much worse for the environment. And I doubt that they'll taste fresh.

  3. This product is actually meant for people who physically can't peel oranges like disabled people or elderly. I'm sure "lazy" people would buy it, but so would the people who perhaps don't have complete mobility in their hands, and they still like to maintain their independence without asking somebody to peel an orange for them. I think the main concern is more the huge plastic containers that they come in. The packaging is so wasteful.

  4. Ellen i LOVE U 😭😭😭😭 I WISH I COULD COME TO YOUR SHOW πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”

  5. if anyone reads this I need a huge favor I have friend named Robert Dickinson he's 15yrs old and he loves to sing, dance ,play the piano and guitar and he makes singing videos he sung to "hello" and you have to see it on Facebook

  9. a lot of people with poor coordination (elderly people, people with arthritis) cannot peel an orange! What is sad is the price they were charging but you do have to figure in an added cost because they are paying someone hourly to peel those oranges – people buy cut up food all the time why is a peeled orange any different, and the plastic is recyclable… this time Ellen was not even funny…

  10. Im surprised i dont hear more "feminist-y types" on here like "omg ellen is othering rn!! This is great for ppl who don't have the RESOURCES to peal stuff omg"

  11. the oranges are sold like that a lot of times so that people with disabilities will find it easier to do regular tasks. it doesn't necessarily mean it is for people who are lazy, my mom told me that they are for people who aren't phisically able to complete the task easily.

  12. I actually love the idea of pre-peeled, ready to eat oranges. I think a lot of people would probably eat them more if they were as convenient to eat as opening a box. Convenience food isn't just for lazy people, there are people who are actually too busy with work and don't have time to prepare food, and that sounds a lot healthier than most convenience foods.

  13. You know, I've been USA twice and I've lived in Canada for a year and God, what's wrong with your bananas?! Seriously! They're not supposed to be so hard to peel. I'm from Brazil and here bananas are so easy to peel… I just don't get what North America does with their bananas to be so hard to peel

  14. People with certain disabilities may appreciate the pre-peeled orange. In some cases it may be easier to open a container than peel.

  15. I'm confused. Do Americans call mandarins oranges? Over here in Australia, we have both fruits, but all the comments say the word "oranges" whereas the photo Ellen shows has the word mandarin written at the bottom underneath the fruits as though they are in fact mandarins and not oranges?

  16. Does anyone know how much views Ellen have on her TV show
now from YouTube bit from television ?????
How many people watching her on television ???

  17. people with dexterity problemsΒ (arthritus et.)Β may in factΒ notΒ be able to peel oranges. I do not know about the recycleability of their containers, but I hope they composted the peels (I will wager most consumers do not do so).

  18. yo ellen. consider how much easier it is to open a little plastic container than it is to peel an orange for a person w a disability…………

  19. Dear sweet ellen, some people have disabilities like arthritis. They can't peel simple stuff like this. To them this is a gift.

  20. Whole foods is over priced to begin with, that's why they're crazy. Secondly, I used to shop at whole foods all the time because I thought it made me classy, but turns out it just makes me stupid paying 6 dollars for a single unpeeled orange!

  21. I don't know what's more bothersome: the pre-peeled oranges or that grocery store is spelled "grocery story" in the description.
